Michiel Berende, Individual Member
Michiel Berende worked as an underwriter and process manager for a Dutch co-operative insurer called Interpolis. Michiel visited India in 2004 and 2005 as a consultant for Interpolis and Micro Insurance Association Netherlands. Michiel supported an NGO called DHAN Foundation in finding the right software solution for their microinsurance program. Working at the grassroots level inspired Michiel to resign his corporate job in 2006 and to go live and work in India. In India Michiel helped to establish a knowledge centre for microinsurance. Through national and international training programs Michiel did his best to create a greater understanding of the principles of microinsurance among practitioners.
Since 2008 Michiel continues his work, based in the Netherlands, on microinsurance capacity building and microinsurance technologies as an independent consultant. Recently Michiel completed in behalf of the ILO Microinsurance Innovation Facility “a scoping study on technologies for microinsurance”. Network role: Facilitator of the Technology Working Group
