Martina Wiedmaier-Pfister, BMZ Financial Systems
Martina Wiedmaier-Pfister has been working in financial systems development since 1992 as a short-and long-term expert in over 20 countries and is specialised in the support to regulation, supervision and policy issues.
She is - on behalf of the German Technical Cooperation (GTZ) and the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) – a member of the Microinsurance Network in its Working Group Regulation, Supervision and Policy Issues. As a renowned expert in microinsurance, she represents GTZ in the MIN as well as in its cooperation with the International Association of Insurance Supervisors and other agencies dedicated to microinsurance development.
Since 2002, Mrs. Wiedmaier-Pfister has been working as independent consultant in the area of financial systems development in Africa, Latin America and Asia, based in Germany. As a team leader for the GTZ microfinance project in Bolivia, from 1998 to 2002, she was particularly engaged in the development of financial innovations, the expansion of financial services and their policy issues including regulation and supervision. Prior to her engagement with GTZ, Mrs. Wiedmaier-Pfister was working in German cooperative banks for ten years.
Ms. Wiedmaier-Pfister advises governments, development agencies, microfinance institutions and international and national support institutions as well as central banks and supervisory authorities. Her assignments are both, technical and strategic, always with the aim to make financial systems more inclusive through improving outreach and sustainability of microfinance and microinsurance.
She is the lead author on numerous publications in the field of access to finance including policy and regulatory issues of microinsurance.
