Gaby Ramm, Individual member

Since 2001, Gabriele Ramm has been working as a senior advisor to the GTZ, the UN and the insurance industry with a focus on social protection in the informal economy and microinsurance. She has managed Public-Private-Partnership (PPP) microinsurance projects with insurance providers (e.g. Munich Re and the Allianz Group) and is working in the areas of demand studies, project appraisals, qualification of delivery channels, design of integrated risk management strategies incl. embedding microinsurance in social protection systems in more than ten countries (e.g. China and India).

She is a member of several steering committees and advisory groups: ILO Microinsurance Innovation Facility, Munich Climate Insurance Initiative/UN University (MCII-UNU), Munich Re Foundation/Microinsurance Network for organizing the annual microinsurance conferences.

Prior to 2001 she was GTZ Program Director in India heading poverty alleviation projects of microinsurance and microfinance, livelihood, women empowerment and good governance. During her tenure with the Friedrich Naumann Foundation, she worked as the FNF Representative in Nepal and Pakistan heading projects on industrial relations, social security, decentralization policy and training of environmental journalists.

Within the Microinsurance Network, she is now emphasising microinsurance curriculum development and strategising how to enable local training institutions to conduct microinsurance training courses. She further works on the experience with index-based products against weather- related risks.

She holds two MA degrees in Political Science/Mass Communication and Engineering.
