Roland Steinmann, Microinsurance Centre

MIC

Roland Steinmann (born 1972) is an independent consultant with a focus on microinsurance. He holds an MSc in environmental sciences (ETH Zurich, 1997) and an MRes in international economics (IEP/Sciences Po, Paris, 2007).

His track record includes two years with a logistics consultancy, where he developed environmentally friendly solutions for freight transportation. Later, he worked for six years as a reinsurance underwriter in the French property market (Swiss Re, Paris office). Developing new products, dealing with risks from fire and natural disasters to nuclear terrorism and tailoring covers to individual client's profile were part of his core activities. Throughout his time with Swiss Re he was happy to share his expertise with colleagues in regular trainings and workshops.

In 2006 Roland Steinmann started his own consultancy business, which is based in Zurich, Switzerland. He worked as a reinsurance expert for Swiss Re in France and since 2008 he is on regular assignments for the MicroInsuranceCentre (USA), particularly in Armenia and Vietnam. In 2008 he co-founded the Fair Trade Insurance Initiative, which promotes innovative insurance solutions for agricultural producers in developing countries.
