SME Finance Challenge and MIA's proposal
In June of last year, the G20 launched the "SME Finance Challenge" and committed to mobilise funding for implementation of winning proposals. Of the 332 submissions, 15 proposals will be selected and presented at the G20 meeting in November 2010 in Seoul, S. Korea.
Micro Insurance Academy Chairman, Prof. David Dror submitted a proposal entitled "Recognising the Value of Embedded Intangibles for Scaling of Microinsurance". The essence of this proposal is that governments should give tax credits or benefits commensurate with value created at the base of the pyramid through investments which cannot today be quantified, bought or sold. These investments include educational, technological and financial activities that create the indispensable foundation for pro-poor development.
