The “International Microinsurance Conference - Learning Sessions Ghana” report published
This report captures the key lessons and messages as well as outcomes from the conference, which took place in Accra, Ghana, from 22 to 23 May 2012. The Conference was jointly hosted by the National Insurance Commission (NIC) and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) and supported by the Munich Re Foundation, the Microinsurance Network (MIN) and Making Finance Work for Africa (MFW4A).
The conference offered a learning and networking platform for key stakeholders in the Ghanaian insurance sector engaged or interested in the development of microinsurance. Presentations and discussions focussed on innovative approaches to promote microinsurance, the exchange of experience and the development of proposals for action to boost the emerging microinsurance market in Ghana. Senior representatives from insurance companies, distribution channels, and regulators representing Ghana and various African and European countries attended the gathering. In total 180 participants attended the two day event.
The conference ended with a clear commitment from major stakeholders in the Ghanaian insurance sector to join hands to expand the provision of microinsurance services to customers in Ghana.
