Workshop on microinsurance business planning held in Timor Leste

The Business Plan Introduction workshop, which was developed by the Capacity Building Working Group of the Microinsurance Network, has been replicated for the first time by institutions outside of the Working Group, confirming its relevance and the demand within the sector.

The workshop took place in Timor Leste and was organised by Inclusive Finance for the Under Served Economy (INFUSE) and United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF) after they participated in a workshop on business planning in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, which was organised by the Capacity Building Working Group.

The half day workshop was attended by professionals from two separate MFIs and an insurance company, who had various amounts of experiences in microinsurance. However, all were actively working on developing an insurance product for the low-income communities, as well as forging new partnerships.

The workshop was initiated with a video, produced by the Pacific Financial Inclusion Programme (PFIP), on microinsurance in the Pacific region, before then focusing on product development, pricing, distribution, and financial projections, all within the context of Timor. It is hoped that the workshop has laid the foundation for developing organisation specific business plans aligned around a common understanding of objectives, external environments, organisational cultures, and internal factors.

For more information on the workshop, please contact the Network’s secretariat or visit the Capacity Building Working Group page
