Invitation to Introduction to the Microinsurance Business Plan workshop
This workshop will be held by the Capacity Building Working Group of the Microinsurance Network in Rio de Janeiro, Tuesday 8 November 2011, 10h00 - 13h00 (Max. 45 people).
Training will be held in English and Spanish. There is the possibility of group work in Portuguese.
This 3-hour introductory workshop aims to provide support organisations, project coordinators, and decision-makers an overview of the contents of the “Microinsurance Business Plan” training course. This introductory workshop will create awareness about the importance of developing a systematic microinsurance business plan since a lack of understanding and training in setting up a robust business plan has frequently been reported as a major obstacle in the successful development and monitoring of microinsurance programmes.
Whether organisations intend to start a microinsurance programme, develop a new product or scale up their business and make it more efficient, a good business plan serves as a critical tool for defining where an organisation is, where it is heading and how it is going to get there.
This introductory workshop will provide a short overview of the following key topics:
- What is a business plan?
- Analysing the macro environment and other external influences that could affect the MI project
- Analysing the organisation’s culture, VMG (vision, mission, and goals), and other internal factors
- Product Development and Pricing
- Distribution options
- Operations management
- Financial projections and modeling
