Liz McGuiness from Microfinance Opportunities took over the facilitation of the Working Group in June 2011.

The group met for the second time this year in November at the 7th International Microinsurance Conference in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The Working Group published 'A Landscape Study of Microinsurance Education', which was carried out by the Micro Insurance Academy (MIA), with the support of the Microinsurance Network, the Aga Khan Agency for Microfinance (AKAM), the Financial Access Initiative (FAI) and ILO’s Microinsurance Innovation Facility (MIF). The study is based on a survey, which was designed to explore the insurance education practices that organisations are employing, specifically with respect to low-income populations.

This was the result of ongoing work since the Working Group’s inception, which started with a stocktaking exercise of available education material in microinsurance. The first phase, a survey, received an overwhelming response with over 1000 entries. Of these entries, 352 survey responses were complete and of those, 242 organisations were active in insurance education.  

Furthermore, in-depth interviews with over 100 organisations from over 50 countries were conducted as well as case studies covering CARE India and partner organisations (Bajaj Allianz, CREED, Avvai). The draft report was then made available for peer review.

This Working Group was set up in November 2008.
