The Actuaries and Microinsurance Discussion Group provides a platform for microinsurance experts and actuaries to exchange and discuss with a view to find ways to work together. The International Actuarial Association (IAA) has set up a microinsurance working group in 2009 and since has become a member of the Network to work closer together with the microinsurance sector.

Additional informationThe actuarial toolkit on microinsurance pricing is being developed using sound actuarial principals. Toolkit modules will be worksheets with practical step-by-step interactive examples of the pricing process, which are described in accompanying text. Worksheets are designed as training tools for technicians or microinsurance programme managers. The first two toolkit modules will explore pricing micro-credit life insurance and micro-agricultural insurance. A subsequent module, which is in early stages of development, will cover pricing micro-health insurance.
The microinsurance working party of the UK Actuarial Profession has established a member interest group to further actuarial learning and involvement in the field of microinsurance. The group's objective is to facilitate a better understanding of the challenges and successes of this area of work and to promote how actuaries can apply their skills to help in the development of microinsurance. The discussion group presented the preliminary ideas for the toolkit at the annual conference in Rio, and took on board the feedback to concentrate on developing toolkit modules for micro-credit life insurance and micro-agricultural insurance.
