Health

The Health Working Group brings together practitioners, insurers and academics involved in the design and implementation of pooling products that increase low-income families’ financial access to health care.

News

The Health Working Group makes available a new resource that provides a global view of health insurance programmes. With over 100 health insurance programmes designed for low-income populations in developing countries, this platform provides a commanding lead in developing a comprehensive database of this emerging industry.

Annual workplan

In 2013, the working group will:

  • Carry out research on client value in health insurance
  • Publish a guide for practitioners on lessons learned and good practices in microinsurance

Past activities

2011

Thierry van Bastelaer from Abt Associates took over the facilitation of the group in March 2011 and reconfigured the group to focus on insurance products. Four meetings were held throughout the year to identify the objectives, share lessons on specific technical issues, and review the group’s outputs.

The working group received seed funding from the Network for an initiative to build an inventory of health microinsurance plans and lessons learned, which will be completed in 2012.
