    • Incorporate a technology community manager to the project

Additional information

Past activities

2010

The Technology Working Group launched the online Microinsurance Technology Inventory, which both centralises and reviews software systems specifically designed for microinsurance. It also includes a Q&A system ensuring practitioners can enquire about any kind of technology related issue. This links to the help desk and the user community on LinkedIn.

2009

Tthe Technology Working Group built the foundation for a Microinsurance Technologies website. Technology providers informed practitioners about their technologies through a focused survey on information systems for microinsurance. After reviewing and documenting the results, users were invited to comment before the final reports were produced. A list of 20 microinsurance-compatible information systems has been assembled so far and are now available online.

2008

The Technology Working Group and the ILO's Microinsurance Innovation Facility compiled the Technology for Microinsurance - Scoping Study, an inventory of information technologies that could be applicable to the extension of insurance services to low-income households.

The objectives of the study were to catalogue and illustrate all kinds of technologies used or potentially useable in the area of microinsurance. The areas of the study included data collection, communications, management information systems and services to support microinsurance practitioners and trainers working with these organisations.

This Working Group was set up in 2007 and focuses on technology as a means to leverage capacity for outreach, dissemination and scaling up while decreasing costs.
